Tito Double P is a charting, best-selling musica mexicana singer and songwriter. His sound is completely rooted in the 21st century but contrasts with his songs; they often meld various musica mexicana forms such as corrido, dembow, reggaeton, ranchera, and mariachi with innovative production standards. Drawing his professional name from his cousin Peso Pluma’s Double P label, Tito has written several hits for him, including “El Belicon” and “La People II.” “Dembow Bélico,” Tito’s debut single, was certified six-times platinum. His next two singles, “Linda” (with Netón Vega) and “Primo” (with Natanael Cano) also charted. In August 2024, Tito released Incómodo, his charting, star-studded debut album.

Roberto Laija was born in Nayarit, Mexico, just southeast of Culiacán, Sinaloa, where he was raised. As a child he was fascinated with and wrote rhymes. During adolescence and into high school, he learned to play the guitar. The first song he ever wrote was a corrido he penned for a friend. Impressed by its quality, he wrote another, then another, and soon he was uploading homemade videos of him singing those songs to social media. One of the first people deeply affected by those videos was his cousin, Peso Pluma.

Pluma, also a songwriter, was looking for material to start his recording career and asked Tito to help. Pluma was invited to Culiacan to hear some of Tito’s corridos. Pluma asked him to sing one, “El Belicon.” He loved the song and they recorded it that day. In April of 2022, the song made its debut on the Hot Latin Songs chart. Tito paid it little mind, thinking it beginner’s luck. He continued writing for Pluma, but it took more hits for him — “Siempre Pendientes” “El Gavilán,” and “PRC,” before the composer believed songwriting was his vocation.

Génesis
Encouraged by his cousin and other successful colleagues (including Luis R. Conriquez and Natanael Cano), Tito decided to try his hand at a solo career, and adopted his moniker after signing with Pluma’s Double P label. He was set to make his debut on Pluma’s Génesis with the tracks “Gavilán II” and “La People,” but a demo of Tito’s “Dembow Bélico” was leaked to TikTok and went viral. He released it as a professionally recorded single in June 2023, with collaborative assistance from Conriquez and Joel De La P. It registered at number 15 in Mexico and at number 35 on the U.S. Hot Latin Songs chart; it was certified platinum — six times. Another single, “Sin Tanto Royo,” appeared on Conriquez’s album Corridos Bélicos, Vol. IV and went to number 35 on U.S. Hot Latin Songs.

Éxodo
In March 2024, “La People II,” performed by Pluma, Tito, and Joel De La P, appeared on the former’s Exodo album, went to number 69 on the Hot 100, and charted at number two at Hot Latin Songs and four on Mexico’s pop charts. In May, Tito released “Linda” in duet with Netón Vega. It reached number 18 in Mexico and number 14 on the U.S. Latin chart. He followed it with the charting “Primo” (with Cano) in July.

Incómodo
Incomodo, Tito’s debut album, appeared in August. Its 21 tracks wed corridos and rancheras with reggaeton and dembow. His many collaborators on the date included a slew of hitmakers such as Eslabon Armado, Cano, Conriquez, Gabito Ballesteros, Grupo Frontera, Junior H, and, of course, Pluma. The album was greeted with a thunderous response in the United States where it peaked at number 20 on the Top 200 and at two on Top Latin Albums and the Mexican Regional lists.
